Brisbane-based colourist Angela Cerasi did the colour grade remotely for the SBS Series “The Swap”, working closely with production company Southern Pictures.  The brief for the series was for a naturalistic grade that also had vibrancy and pops of colour.

In a trailblazing, television-first original series for SBS, The Swap follows what happens when 12 students and families from very different cultures, religions, and backgrounds are thrown into each other’s worlds. Students from Australia’s biggest Islamic school embark on a school swap with students from mainstream high schools.  Can they make a real difference in breaking down social barriers and building greater acceptance, respect and understanding between diverse cultural communities?  Or will the experiment backfire as cultures collide, with the potential for controversies to flare?

The architect behind The Swap is Ali Kadri, CEO of the Islamic College of Brisbane. Taking part are six Muslim families, four Catholic families and two atheist families. Over one school term, Kadri accompanies the students on an emotional rollercoaster as they experience the anxiety, excitement and wonder of spending time at each other’s schools and with each other’s families and communities.

The Swap won an award for the representation of race and ethnicity, non-scripted, in the 2023 MIPPON CANNES Diversify TV Awards.  The award ceremony, in it’s 7th year, spotlights diversity and inclusion in the international television market and was presented at the Cannes Palais des Festivals’ Grand Auditorium in 2023.  The winners were selected from 165 countries submitted by 27 countries.
